Millennium Theatre, Lancaster Pennsylvania

The day after Thanksgiving, we took off on a nice day trip to
Lancaster, Pennsylvania

Lancaster is one of my favorite places to go~ it is the Amish farms and houses that make one yearn for yesteryear.
Large simple white square houses are a pretty site. The old fashion farm houses have tall windows which continue around the house.

At dark, a candle is seen in each and every window.

So simple, so sweet.

From tours of their homes, we know they are furnished with hand made furniture and home sewn quilts, etc.

They mostly cling to their modest traditions.

The purpose of the trip was to attend the "Miracle of Christmas" at the stately Millennium Theatre there~

We attended with friends and neighbors.

We had an early dinner at the "Good and Plenty" Amish Farmhouse restaurant. We feasted on simple home cooked food, served family style.

Was a perfect Thanksgiving weekend~We LOVE our family friends who are our neighbors. They are as glamorous as any celebrities, right?

Haven't had a chance to check the blog lately. Keep the photos coming. They really show your readers the rich and colorful life that you lead. The granddaughter is truly a blessing. The fall leaves are quite a backdrop for all of your gatherings.

When did you paint the dining room? What color it it (on the paint chip). It looks so spicey rich.

My family's favorite thing is to also go to "Amish country" while I lived in Philly. We went at least 2-3 times a year. Our favorite restaurant is Stolfus Farm as they raise their own meat and the meal menu is always the same. (May have only been open for lunch I do not know because we only did day trips as it was only 45 minutes from where I lived.) You probably would not want to go there 2 days in a row. It is family style. I like Good and Plenty and some of the other places to eat but I have been to all of them and was not so thrilled about what they were having that particular day. This way I always knew we would have fried chicken, homemade sausages, green beans, corn, potatoes, several dishes of homemade relishes, apple butter and homemade bread. Then you chose either shoo-fly pie, cherry pie, apple pie with or without soft serve ice cream. (may have been more pie choices but these were the 3 someone in our family always ordered.) It is so changed from the mid 70's when I started going there. I know every back road and by-way so I would not have to get on the main highways....esp in tourist season. I envy your wonderful trip there...it has been awhile for me.
