Response to Older Posts

What great joy it is to have comments posted to a much older Post.
The comment is from a Military Wife to the Waiting Vietnam Wife posting.
She, too, waited at home with a baby while her husband served in Vietnam. Hearing from her makes me realize that perhaps we should write about subjects that will bring back memories to others who lived similar lives.

I loved her comment and it meant a great deal to me. She shared that she grew up fast in the first few months he was gone. Was touching to read. Thanks so much Sarah, wherever you are.

My husband was an AF pilot and when we talk that war, he said he would like to go back as he saw Vietnam from the air and airfields...even though he served three tours there. He
remembers the beginning when Saigon was calm and safe...they stayed in a Hotel downtown and took a taxi out to the Airfield to fly each day...a Gentleman's War at first, however, soon the Hotel was bombed and came under sniper fire, leaving Saigon one more hot spot.

The news crews were there and it became a televised war, remember? During those times, I didn't watch the news.

Sarah, not too long ago, I met with the Washington Writers where a book written by a Vietnam wife was discussed. The speaker read parts of her book...which you and I would take to be military life as usual, however, the entire room fell silent as they learned about that time in the woman's life. The speaker for the evening was amazed.
I encourage you to write.

We are planning a trip to see Vietnam as tourists in 2010. I have met so many Vietnamese who have come to the States. When they feel comfortable with you, they have stories that are so dramatic, they are hard to actually believe.
One of these days I will
get around to writing them too.
