The native born Key Westers are known as "Conchs" which is pronounced 'kongk.'
You can identify them as they have the most laid back style on earth.
I remember many parties we attended when we lived there in Key West, but one stands out in my mind.
The party was hosted by a local and reading the invitation I had a question about the dress.
I called Mary, the hostess and asked the meaning of "Key West Casual." She laughed and said "Hopefully washed up."
That said it all.
I remember the party was Key West elegance. All the important people were there, elected officials and hopefuls, on and on, etc as well as the media.
Women in brightly colored sundresses and sandals ...the guys wore smart island shirts and had even left their beloved flip-flops at home...all witnessed a Key West success story. Fabulous island food, island flowers, island music and beautiful fruit drinks.
As they say in the social columns,
"A good time was had by all."
Today Mary's big conch style mansion in the heart of Old Town is a Bed and Breakfast.
Sadly I don't have a photo but google will have one for sure.
Curry Mansion, Key West should be all you need.
I miss Mary, she was a good bridge player.

You are such a great photographer. Such a sense of composition and understanding of color. Have you discovered FLICKR yet? You should make some of your photos available through FLICKR.
Regarding Key West, the last I heard, Boris was retiring and the Haitian Art Company (Frances Street) might no longer be. The Haitian Art Company did so much to help the artists of Haiti and represented what I loved about Key West-- people passionate about what they do and living their dream.
To steal an old line:
Thanks for the memories!
